Ovation Collector's Series 1984-5 - USA 1984

Founded by aerospace engineer Charles Kaman, Ovation approached acoustic guitar building from a very different angle to most manufacturers of the time. Rather than sticking purely to traditional flat back construction, the company introduced its rounded composite body design alongside onboard electronics, creating instruments that were built as much for stage use as they were for unplugged playing. The Ovation 1984-5 sits firmly within that more experimental period of the company’s history, pairing a composite bowl back with a AAA Sitka spruce top and a five piece mahogany/maple neck. The result is an acoustic that feels noticeably different in the hands, with a fast, focused response and a tighter low end that helped Ovation guitars become favourites among live performers throughout the late 1970s and 1980s.

This example remains in original condition throughout, including its OP24 electronics and original hardware. The ebony fingerboard with maple diamond inlays pairs nicely with the AAA Sitka spruce top, while the slimmer C profile neck and flatter 10" radius contribute to an easy playing feel. It currently plays cleanly with low action and light fret wear, set up with 12 gauge strings.

Cosmetically, the guitar shows light age appropriate wear throughout, including minor swirls, scratches, and small blemishes across the top, back, and neck. Nothing appears excessive or out of place for the age of the instrument.

It comes supplied with its original hard shell case.
