POLICIES

Consignment Policy

All instruments listed on our website are for sale on a consignment basis. We will list your instrument free of charge on the condition that Premier Guitars is the exclusive selling agent for a minimum of six months, which may be extended by mutual agreement. It is a condition of consignment that the instrument must be held at our secure premises. All inspections by potential buyers are by appointment only, so the instrument must be available in good presentation condition, in our premises.

Pricing – Once consigned, PREMIER GUITARS will do extensive price research on your instrument, including use of sophisticated, up to date subscription databases. Essentially we work on worldwide price averages, and value your instrument accordingly depending on its condition, rarity, provenance etc. We give you that price feedback and agree on an initial listing price.

Ultimately, you as the owner set the minimum amount that you will accept for your instrument. Premier Guitars will then list it for sale at a price agreed by both parties, which may be varied by mutual agreement. Naturally you will better prospects of a successful sale if the price is set realistically. As a matter of process, it is often the case that the market will set the price for particular pieces at a certain time.

The Seller remains the owner of the Merchandise until it is sold. Sellers are advised to list their Merchandise on the Australian Personal Property Securities Register to ensure its title remains secure. Why register a security interest on the PPS Register?

How to register a security interest on the PPS Register

The seller must complete a Consignment Agreement which specifies and identifies the instrument, describes its provenance (optional but recommended), states the agreed value at which it will be offered for sale by consignment, and guarantees that you are the owner of the instrument, or are authorised to sell it.

Sales commission to Premier Guitars is a flat fee of 20% + GST = 22% of the sale price and is retained by Premier Guitars when the sale has been completed.

We guarantee to pay the seller the sale price minus commission within 30 days of the buyer’s funds being cleared. No exceptions unless requested by the seller.

Please Note –

If after any exclusive consignment period, you sell your instrument to a buyer who was introduced to you by Premier Guitars, the full commission of 20% + GST is payable. This is similar to a real estate agency contract, and simply protects Premier Guitars from the possibility of non-payment for work carried out on your behalf in good faith.

If you list your instrument on an auction site, general sales site, or elsewhere, we may cordially decline to list your goods on the Premier Guitars site, i.e. we may remove your instrument from our website.

If you have recently had an unsuccessful attempt at selling your instrument on one of the auction or general sales sites, then we reserve the right to not stock your instrument for consignment on Premier Guitars for some months, to be determined on a case by case basis. This is due to the likelihood that when an instrument has been passed in on an alternative site, buyer’s expectations of price may have been dramatically reduced.

Hours

Inspections are usually available by appointment 10.00 am – 5.00 pm Monday to Friday or at another mutually agreeable time.

We are not a shopfront, but rather a secure storage and sales facility for owners of quality stringed instruments. And every item listed on our website is for sale. Insurance

Premier Guitars maintains a safe storage facility with state of the art security. Our premises in a modern office building in Sydney’s northern beaches are some of the most secure possible. Premier Guitars is insured for its own property and business operations, but because it is not the owner of your instruments, we cannot insure them specifically against fire, theft, flood, damage or other loss. We take great care to ensure that all instruments are stored safely and securely in appropriate climatic conditions. We personally oversee any demonstrations and never allow visitors to play or inspect instruments without supervision.

Please be advised that the Seller is responsible for insuring the Merchandise, which is held at Premier Guitars at the Seller’s risk.

Sellers are strongly advised to obtain insurance cover for their instruments during the consignment period, and should ensure that the insurance policy covers transportation and the ability to store the goods at an alternative address to their own. Premier Guitars can recommend reasonably priced insurance from a well qualified provider upon request. Premier Guitars receives no commission, fees or financial reward for insurance referrals.

Payments

Payment preference for purchases is by direct bank deposit (EFT – Electronic Funds Transfer). Credit cards, bank cheque acceptable by agreement.

We also accept Layby. Under  NSW Consumer Laws, a 25% non-refundable deposit is required and full payment must be completed within 90 days. All sales are final on layby purchases. No returns, no refunds and no approval period on laybys.

Shipping

We are happy to carefully pack products for shipping and book a courier with or without insurance at the buyer's discretion. However, Premier Guitars takes no responsibility for the goods once they are picked up for shipping. Any insurance claims or disputes with couriers are the responsibility of the buyer.

Depending on buyer’s location, shipping and insurance costs are variable and will be quoted on a case by case basis. Customer pays all shipping, insurance and any bank charges, including for any returned merchandise. We reserve the right not to ship some specific goods, but everything is up for discussion. Please call to discuss your requirements.

Yes we will ship outside Australia but require upfront payment by bank transfer only. Please email us for specific international shipping rates.

Hold Policy

We will hold any instrument for you for 24 hours prior to deposit. When an instrument is placed on hold, it is reserved for the purchaser exclusively and withdrawn from the market. No subsequent offer, regardless of amount, will break a hold once it has been reserved for you. In return, we expect that a hold request is a commitment to purchase. To avoid abuse of the process, hold requests must not be made without the express intent to receive the instrument for approval. All holds will automatically expire after 24 hours.

Returns Policy

All items are sold as-is. However, on all sight-unseen purchases we offer a 48 hour approval period if the goods received are not how they are described in our listing, with the exception of goods that are damaged in transit. Premier Guitars takes no responsibility for the goods once they are picked up for shipping. Any insurance claims or disputes with couriers are the responsibility of the buyer – see our Shipping Policy.

So apart from transit damage, if the goods are different from how they were described or photographed in our listing, then upon receipt of your purchase, you must notify us within 48 hours and we will refund your purchase price as soon as the merchandise is returned to us in the same condition as when shipped (except for laybys, amplifier purchases and overseas sales, all of which are non returnable).

The customer is responsible for all shipping, insurance and bank charges that may occur. Any goods returned not in the same condition as sent, or returned for a frivolous reason is subject to 10% restocking fee at our sole discretion.  All returns must be fully insured. There will be no approval period for items held in our facility for longer than 14 days from the point of purchase. The purchaser must advise us of the time of receipt of goods, and the 48 hour approval period will commence from time of receipt. The delivery time can also be verified by courier’s delivery record. The 48 hour approval period is available only for items shipped within 14 days of purchase. We do not offer any returns on overseas sales.
