One of Guild's more well-known solid body guitars, the S-100 premiered in 1970 after the discontinuation of the Polara, which also used the S-100 model number. The S-100 is shaped very similar to the Gibson SG, but with asymmetrical horns and in many players’ opinions, a more sophisticated, more comfortable and stronger neck joint.
Its pickups are large humbuckers with a distinctive sound – not quite as dark as many Gibson humbuckers but rich and full sounding. A phase switch was added to the model in 1972.

This vintage Guild was bought new by its one owner from Barry Farrell Music in 1974. It has been well played because it deserves to be played. So it shows its marks of distinction with pride. Some dings, dents and scratches but nothing unexpected in a guitar that is almost 50 years old. And nothing offensive.
This one is supremely resonant and lively, with a medium sized C shaped neck, and a classic look that will never go out of style.
It has had a pro refret in 2010 and is showing little fret wear. This one is finished in its original cherry lacquer which has faded naturally to walnut over time. This is very common in cherry finished guitars of the era, including probably 90% of Gibson SGs from this time. It has not been refinished.
This S100 has been set up nicely with a medium low action. The 12” fingerboard radius allows for super comfortable playing with easy string bendability & absolutely no fret buzz all the way up the neck.

This guitar would appeal to fans of Gibson SGs from the era, with the same light weight and comfortable feel. And these pickups are really very good with a sparkle to the top end not usually present in the Gibson units. Plus the phase switch actually produces a very funky and useable sound.
