From humble beginnings working out of a Detroit-area garage to worldwide praise and presence on the globe's biggest stages, Reverend Guitars has solidified its place as a reliable source of quality guitars and basses.

From Reverend –

“Big and deep is one thing. Add clarity and that elusive vintage warmth … meet the Mercalli 4. We pulled it off by using a five-piece neck, lock down bridge, and innovative passive pickups.

We design our own proprietary custom pickups, to achieve the best tonal match with our instruments. Reverend pickups are also specifically designed for each position, for balanced volume and tone when switching.

Korina (aka White Limba) is a medium-light weight wood, highly prized for consistency and tonal qualities. Often found in boutique and vintage instruments, all Reverends feature Korina bodies. A highly resonant wood, Korina is a key factor to producing our lively, responsive instruments that are rich in harmonics.

The roasted maple used in our necks is heat treated at over 300° F to remove sugars, moisture, and impurities. This maple is lighter, more stable, and has a beautiful caramel colour. Combined with our five-piece construction, the result is a neck that requires less seasonal adjustment, and boasts a rich vintage look!

Our bridge features heavy duty saddles in combination with a massive base plate. This substantial mass of metal enhances clarity and attack, and produces bell-like sustain. It's also a versatile bridge, that can be strung string-thru-body or top-load.

Our dual action rod adjusts in both directions, allowing back bow or forward bow. This assures correct adjustment range is possible regardless of string tension, extreme climate conditions, or the effects of long term aging. It’s also located at the headstock for easy access.”

Features -

• Solid korina body makes for consistent tones and rich harmonics

• Specially developed Thick Brick and Split Brick pickups developed by founder Joe Naylor

• Pickup pan control allows for blending of the 2 pickups

5-piece roasted maple neck means stability and less seasonal adjustment

• Versatile high-mass bridge enhances clarity, attack, and sustain

• Reliable and strong Pure Tone jack for improved audio signal

• Hipshot Ultralite tuners made from aircraft-grade aluminium

The pickup configuration on this Mercalli 4 are quite interesting -- the Split Brick in the neck position enhances the output of highs and lows — like a P Bass pickup but cleaner and beefier.

Conversely, the Thick Brick in the bridge position produces warm mids with a sharp attack much like an active pickup but more organic. Both pickups work exceptionally well together — and with a pickup pan control, forming the right balance for any musical situation comes easy.

This is a well made, full scale bass produced at Reverend’s facility in Korea. If it was exactly the same but built in USA, the price tag would be substantially higher.

But the quality of this Mercalli 4 bass is not in question. It plays and performs as well as any pro level bass you can buy for lots more $$$. It is balanced and relatively light at 8.95 lbs.

It delivers tonally in every way, with a very well thought out pickup system - quite unique and easy to dial in in your desired sound.

This bass is in great shape. There are no structural concerns or any cosmetic blemishes of note. It was bought new in 2020 by its one owner, and has been looked after well.

The brainchild of designer and luthier Joe Naylor, Reverend instruments are used by many of today's most influential players, including Billy Corgan, Reeves Gabrels, Meshell Ndegeocello, Rick Vito, Matt West, and many others.

Comes in an Extreme branded gig bag in good condition.
