The PRS McCarty model pays homage to a legacy of innovation. As the President of Gibson during a true golden era of guitar building (1950-1966), Ted McCarty was a pioneer of the electric guitar and musical instrument industry. In the late 1980’s, Paul Reed Smith called on Ted to consult with him on guitar design and production techniques. He not only served as Paul’s mentor but became a great friend of Paul and everyone he met at PRS.
In 1994 PRS released the first McCarty - an instrument that incorporated the full spectrum of techniques and knowledge Paul had gained from Ted as well as his own experiences as a guitar builder. The PRS McCarty model features a slightly thicker back for enhanced tone and sustain.

And now we get to the special stuff. This wonderful McCarty is endowed with a beautiful dark Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard. It is number 60 of only 500 made in this Limited Edition run.
Beside the Brazilian fretboard and headstock overlay, other features include pink heart abalone birds and signature, and the word "Brazilian" plus the PRS logo are inlaid on the face of the headstock in green abalone ripple. Each of the 500 is a Ten Top with gold/nickel hybrid hardware configuration.
And Paul Reed Smith has personally signed the control cover plate which is also hand numbered 60/500. The original owner bought another cover plate in order to keep the signed one intact.
PRS are renowned for their quality control and attention to detail, and they don’t come much better than this, with a fabulous deep stripe in the Ten Top and finished in stunning Flamed Amber.
For newcomers to the PRS story, here’s how the company defines a Ten Top – “A very small percent of the maple trees cut in North America are actually figured. To make "10-Top" status a PRS top must have clearly defined figure across its entire top with no "dead" spots. A guitar designated as a 10-Top will usually have a small "10" written on the back of the headstock in the upper right corner. Some of our earlier guitars have the "10" stamped into the finish in the same position.”
This is an impressive instrument in fabulous condition. It has been meticulously looked after and presents with little visible player wear. It is balanced & comfortable, with lots of variety available in these pickups - sweet chimey chords and plenty of punch in these McCarty humbuckers to cut through when needed.
This guitar was listed for well over $6000 when new in 2003, and apart from some light tarnishing on the metalwork, it is in the same condition today …. or possibly even better. It’s been played in, set up really well and is approaching 18 years of age, which means that like some other PRS Limited Editions, it may get on the collector radar in future years.
Comes in its original PRS hard shell case with all tags & paperwork.
