Built from 1996 to 2009, the PRS Swamp Ash Special features a solid Swamp Ash body with the trademark PRS contouring, a 22-fret bolt on neck and a centre single coil pickup.
Based on a carved block of Swamp Ash paired with a bolt on maple neck, the PRS Swamp Ash Special is a super versatile PRS model. A pair of humbuckers bracket a Seymour Duncan Vintage Rail single coil pickup, with a pickup selector, master volume and push/pull master tone control providing coil tap options. The PRS vintage trem is installed, and at the headstock there is a set of excellent PRS locking tuners.
Swamp Ash is a term often applied to lightweight ash that’s grown in swampy or wet areas. Its resonance, light weight and porosity provide a wide frequency response with a bit of a scooped midrange. As an electric guitar wood, Swamp Ash was chosen by Fender for its classic instruments from the 1950s.
This PRS Swamp Ash Special dates to 2005 and was built at the PRS plant in Stevensville, Maryland. It is a one owner instrument which was specially ordered to include a highly figured maple neck and abalone bird inlays. It is in mint condition with no player wear, no changes and no issues – just fabulous.

If you're looking for versatility, the PRS Swamp Ash Special will suit you perfectly. With this instrument you can play jazz, blues, fusion, rock'n'roll, pop, rock, funk (this is a VERY funky guitar!) and only carry one guitar to the gig.
Swamp Ash is a prized tonewood for many reasons. It is a very musical wood offering a very nice balance of brightness and warmth with a lot of "pop". Swamp Ash is famous for its wide, clear mid-range tone and tight bottom end. The grain is open and it is light enough to resonate well but strong enough to be stable.
The silvery vintage tones of the McCarty pickups are the result of a unique manufacturing process taught to PRS by Ted McCarty, and feature vintage alnico magnets and special nickel silver covers.
The Seymour Duncan Vintage Rails pickup in the centre position uses a unique split rail, twin coil design and special wiring to achieve true single coil tone without any hum. The sound is clean, clear and bright, with all that quack we love in the notch positions.
This is a great guitar in every way. PRS are known for their incredibly high build standards and great tonal options, and this is one of the most versatile PRS models we have ever listed. And looks and hardware aside, the guitar feels so good in your hands – perfectly balanced on your strap, with everything just right – just jump right in and play. With the push-pull coil-tap on the tone knob, revel in the ability to stay on the Vintage Rails and switch between Les Paul and Strat tone. And it’s a clean LP tone, too, with the ash body and maple board nicely tightening much of that traditional humbucker muddiness.
Comes in its original PRS hard case in excellent condition with paperwork, tools & tags.
