National Resophonic Style N Resonator – USA 2004

by National

$2,995.00 20030

The National Style N is based on a prewar model from the late 1920s. Of course Nationals are rightly renowned for their ornate decoration. But over time the company found that some players didn’t want the sand-etched Hawaiian scenes on the top, back and sides of the most famous single cone National model – the Style O.

With the Style O you get the island, the palm trees, the canoeist, the setting sun, the volcano, the clouds and the waves. With the Style N you get nuthin’ – nuthin’ but a beautiful, plain, shiny and polished German Silver finish — which is neither German nor actual silver but instead an alloy that includes copper, zinc and nickel plating on the top, rims and back.

Other features are a 25” scale length, a fingerboard width of 1 13/16th”, a hard rock maple neck (though you don’t have to play hard rock on it), an ebony fingerboard, a maple biscuit bridge saddle, a pewter-looking National “Trade Mark USA” crest with art deco echoes, a diminutive grained ivoroid truss rod cover held in place by three screws, a slotted headstock with old-style three-on-a-plate tuners, ivoroid dot markers and matching grained ivoroid fingerboard binding.

This Style N was a special order for its one owner, delivered direct by National to him in Sydney in 2004. It has been played in a professional setting on and off since then but has been well looked after. There are a few small marks on the back but the top, sides and neck are remarkably clean.

This resonator comes with its proprietary Highlander pickup system including its matched power supply and stereo cable. The instrument sounds just fabulous in its acoustic guise, but if you need some amplification, this Highlander system is the business – excellent, natural sounding reproduction at high volume levels if required, without colouration of the original sound.

Comes in its original hard shell case which is showing some wear but is structurally sound.
