Dermot McIlroy, along with his wife Colleen, started McIlroy Musical Instruments on 6th March 2000. Dermot already had 21 years of experience behind him, 10 of those with the Lowden Guitar Co, where he played a role in all aspects of guitar making from the machine shop to production manager and everything in between.
During his time with Lowden, there were many aspects of the design that Dermot wanted to experiment with. Obviously this would be impossible with that company’s set designs, so having the freedom to implement designs in his own company was also a major incentive to wanting to leave and set up his own business.
And it has been very successful enterprise, garnishing accolades and solid sales throughout Europe and further afield. With limited output and big demand, this would be one of the very few McIlroy guitars in Australia.
The A series is their mid-size jumbo, also known as an auditorium size guitar. It is McIlroy’s most popular size – extremely comfortable to play, producing a clear airy tone with big volume.

And of course the beautiful Koa back and sides are quite stunning in the flesh – you kinda have to see it for real to get the full effect.
Machine heads are premium Gotoh 510s with amber buttons.
This is a fabulous instrument. A lovely piece of hand crafted luthiery using the highest quality materials and attention to detail that cannot be faulted.
This McIlroy A45 Koa is in perfect, as new condition. It shows not a single sign of player wear and would suit a new buyer. The sound is super bright, with a punchy mid range, tight bass, and projects a volume that defies its proportions.
Comes in its Hiscox flight case in new condition, with full spec sheet.
