Originally introduced in the early 1980s, the JCM800 quickly became a benchmark for powerful, articulate distortion and remains highly sought after for its raw, uncompromising tone.

Designed as a straightforward all-tube amplifier, the JCM800 delivers a wide dynamic range from clean headroom through to aggressive, saturated overdrive. It is powered by four 12AX7 preamp tubes and four EL34 power tubes, with either 50-watt or 100-watt configurations depending on the model, giving it the power and presence needed for both stage and studio use.

This particular unit has seen extensive use throughout its life, having toured nationally and served as a regular studio recording amplifier. The black tolex shows noticeable cosmetic wear and tarnishing from years of professional use, contributing to its authentic, road-worn character and rock history appeal.

It is a stock 2204 circuit with the addition of a master volume modification, allowing for greater control over output level while maintaining the amp’s signature gain structure. The serial number (10176R) identifies it as a 1983 build.

Sonically, this JCM800 delivers exactly what it is known for bold, punchy cleans and a powerful, harmonically rich overdrive with plenty of grit and aggression. It responds exceptionally well to classic rock setups and remains a favourite for players seeking that unmistakable Marshall roar.

Specifications:

Year: 1983
Country: United Kingdom
Model: Marshall JCM800 2204 Head + 1960A Cabinet
Power (Head): 50 watts
Channels: 2
Controls (Head): Presence, bass, middle, treble, volume 1, volume 2, master volume (modded)
Inputs: 3 (head), 2 × 1/4" (cab)
Construction: Valve head with 4×12 closed-back angled cabinet
Cabinet Power Handling: 300 watts
Cabinet Speakers: 4 × 12"
Cabinet Impedance: 16Ω / 4Ω mono, 8Ω stereo
Cabinet Configuration: Mono/stereo switchable, angled
Cabinet Construction: Birch ply
Casters: Yes
Dimensions (Head): 740 × 315 × 210 mm
Dimensions (Cabinet): 830 × 760 × 360 mm
Weight (Head): 20.5 kg
Weight (Cabinet): 36.4 kg

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0283/1905/6012/products/Marshall_JCM800_Head_1960A_Lead_Cabinet_-_UK_1983.jpg?v=1733490888
