In 2007 Gibson created a Limited Edition SG that combined features from a Standard and a Custom. Gibson made a total of 500 only – 250 in black and an additional 250 in cherry.
This was titled the Gibson SG-3. It is a Gibson special run instrument built to the highest USA quality standards, in our opinion equalling anything out of the Custom Shop. It is NOT one of Gibson’s Guitar Of The Week editions of the same year, which had different specs and were much cheaper.
The body is solid mahogany and features the classic SG bevels and 61 style pickguard. The 24 3/4 “ scale mahogany neck features a bound rosewood fingerboard with trapezoid inlays. A trio of 57 Classic humbuckers are hooked to a 6 way chicken head switch for a variety of tones – all of which work very well.
A stopbar tailpiece, tune-o-matic bridge and Kluson style tuners keep it all rock solid. The finish is Gibson's classic Heritage Cherry lacquer and is set off by fancy gold hardware.

This is a fabulous looking SG that also happens to be quite rare. And this one is especially so as it bears the serial number C 001, which means it was the very first of the 250 Cherry SG-3 guitars ever built.
This SG-3 plays beautifully and sounds great. The neck is a medium C profile like the current SG Standards. Overall weight is 7.4 lbs
It is in excellent condition – could almost pass as new. The frets are virtually unmarked, the action is low & clean and the neck is straight. The 57 Classic pickups and 6 way switch deliver a wide variety of tones, all very useable.
No modifications and everything works as it should. This is a fine guitar in super clean order.
Comes in its Gibson hard shell case with white lining, in excellent condition.
