This is a 2012 built Les Paul LPR-8 1958 Historic Reissue from the Gibson Custom Shop. Part of the current Historic series of instruments and featuring both a Vintage Original Spec (VOS) finish and the updated plastics Gibson introduced a couple years prior, this R8 Les Paul is presented with a quite lovely plain top in vintage sunburst.
The 1958 Les Paul Standard reissue produced today by Gibson Custom is true to all of the original instrument's features and characteristics, including Gibson's traditional hand-carved "plain" maple top and solid, non-weight relieved mahogany body. The headstock is made from Holly head veneer, as opposed to fibre, just like it was in 1958, and the vintage-style tulip tuners are mounted in a straight line, also as they were on the original.
The 24 ¾-inch scale length neck is made from one solid piece of mahogany, and attached to the body using a long neck tenon — one of the Les Paul's more distinguishing characteristics of the 1950s.
The neck is topped by a 22-fret rosewood fingerboard outfitted with acrylic trapezoid inlays matching the size and colour of the originals.
The original Burstbucker pickups on this one have been replaced with a super sounding set of Seymour Duncan Slash Signature humbuckers.
Other historical appointments include CTS potentiometers, bumble bee capacitors, rolled cream coloured fingerboard binding, single-ply thin binding around the body, and period-correct switch washer and jackplate.

This Les Paul plays as good as it looks. The early ‘50s rounded neck profile has a full-in-hand feel which will be right at home with players who like a chunky neck. The Duncan pickups sound great with a rich complexity and quality tone at all volume levels.
All the appointments are vintage original spec, right down to the colour of the plastics, nickel hardware finish and control wiring.
This guitar presents in exceptional, virtually new condition. It shows no buckle rash on the back, and the top is super clean, as are the neck and sides - not a mark or blemish anywhere. The frets show no wear, the neck is large but comfortable and plays beautifully in all positions.
The pickguard on this one has never been installed but it’s in the case.
All in all, this is one of the best Gibson 1958 Les Paul Reissues we have seen – in terms of high quality build, medium weight, solid neck profile, the allure of the vintage sunburst finish and accuracy of its specs. With the use of 55-year-old manufacturing techniques, Gibson has succeeded in the alchemy of creating a new guitar with the feel of an aged instrument without resorting to the relic process.
Comes in its original Gibson Custom Shop case in excellent condition, along with case candy and its Certificate of Authenticity.
