This is a Gibson Les Paul Custom from 1987 in excellent condition with a stunning and original Alpine White finish. There's an instant set of tones that comes to mind when considering a Les Paul Custom, and this vintage example truly delivers on the promise of one of Gibson's most lauded creations with a rich, articulate sound and big sustain.
This guitar can shift from searing treble in the bridge position to a clear and rich neck pickup with the flip of a switch. The basis for these nuanced tones is the combination of a solid mahogany body and carved maple top, and this guitar has a clear acoustic voice that translates well through the pickups.
The original Gibson Pat No. pickups ensures that this guitar delivers sweet top end, midrange detail, and great clarity & punch.
Weighing in at 10.3 lbs, this Custom has excellent attack and feels extremely solid when you dig in, keeping a focused and robust tone that chimes with a certain sweetness that's hard to match. It is nicely set up with a smooth, low action and solid intonation.
The mahogany neck has a C shaped profile which is more in the ‘60s than 50s camp generally speaking, with a medium C shape at the nut and more roundness and depth as you travel up the fretboard. The ebony fretboard retains the original frets which show very little wear and have plenty of like left.
The guitar plays cleanly in all positions and notes ring out clearly all the way up the neck. The original nut is intact and measures 1 11/16" wide.
On the headstock, the classic split diamond pearl inlay is present along with a cleanly inlaid Gibson logo and original truss rod cover. The serial number is imprinted on the back of the headstock, along with the original set of stock gold tuners with metal tulip buttons.
On the body, all of the electronics work as they should, with an untouched wiring harness and CTS pots that date to 1987. The original Nashville bridge and tailpiece are also present, along with the quartet of black speed knobs.
The gold hardware is extremely clean, with only light wear through the plating on the bass side edge of the bridge and edges of the bridge pickup covers. Cosmetically, this guitar is a particularly nice example with only light yellowing of the original nitro lacquer finish accented by multi-ply body and headstock binding, framing the milky white of the finish perfectly.
The nitro lacquer finish is 100% original and this guitar is structurally sound with zero repairs. There is hardly a mark on the back and the neck is clean front and rear.
Aside from these expected signs of light use over the past three decades, this is a particularly nice example of one of Gibson's most enduring models.
Comes in a non original hard shell case in good condition.
