OK, this is one hell of a guitar --- a killer Gibson Custom Shop Historic 1957 Reissue that has been given a Real Deal treatment by Historic Makeovers USA, including a Brazilian rosewood fingerboard, Wizz Premium Clone PAF pickups, and lots more.
This guitar started life as a Gibson Custom Shop Les Paul ’57 Goldtop (Model LPR-7) which is a faithful reproduction of the original 1957 Gibson Les Paul Goldtop. It has been crafted to capture the look, feel and sound of a 1957 Les Paul.
From Gibson – “The legendary Les Paul evolved throughout the 1950s, but the major ingredients really came together when the Goldtop earned a tune-o-matic bridge and gained two sweet PAF humbucking pickups to eventually become the most revered weapon in rock.
The Gibson Custom Shop LPR-7 Goldtop brings together all the key ingredients of the hallowed ’57 Goldtop, crafted with Gibson Custom’s Historic specifications to ensure period-correct looks and features. Select tonewoods, an accurate ’50s neck profile, and two Alnico III Custom Bucker pickups join a Goldtop finish with gently aged VOS (Vintage Original spec) treatment to bring you a superb ’57-style Les Paul.”
But as good as all that is, this guitar was selected by Historic Makeovers of Lake Mary, Florida USA to be given their “Real Deal Series” (RDS) treatment.
From Historic Makeovers – https://historicmakeovers.com/
“HISTORIC MAKEOVERS® is committed to making your guitar look and feel just like its beloved vintage brethren from 1959. With processes originally developed by vintage guitar enthusiast Kim LaFleur, Historic Makeovers® is proud to be the gold standard in complete vintage makeovers. We have a team of specialists working together with one goal in mind: to produce the most accurate, most vintage correct makeovers the world has ever seen. All our original processes have been retooled and reformulated to make the best even better. Every single detail has been re-examined and improved.”
Kim LaFleur and his team then stripped this LPR-7 back to the wood and gave it their signature RDS makeover. This includes a total deep dish top carve, neck carve, vintage style truss rod, hot hide glue neck reset, Brazilian rosewood fingerboard, Retrospec inlays, Royalite binding, vintage style tuners, new frets, nylon nut, vintage correct finish, distressing, serial stamp, and headstock silkscreen.
But very possibly, the crème de le crème addition to this comprehensive workover was the installation of some fabulous Wizz Premium Clone PAF pickups.
Wizz pickups are handmade in Croatia and are being sold to a growing band of sophisticated tone hunters worldwide.

Guitar weight is 8.8 lbs
Picking up this instrument is like holding a piece of history. The Gibson Historic Reissue instruments are wonderful time capsules of an era that defined rock music as well as the electric guitar. But the incredibly accurate and exhaustive transformation of this instrument by Historic Makeovers is what makes this one quite unique and very special.
The neck profile of this R7 is slightly on the slim side, especially when compared to the rather larger necks that commenced in 1958. It is amazingly comfortable to hold, and the Brazilian rosewood fingerboard adds a powerful resonance to the overall tone. The iconic stressed Goldtop treatment is gorgeous and this guitar comes alive with one of the best sounding sets of PAF style pickups available on the market. They are woody, throaty and clear with a balanced midrange and are instantly recognisable as the emblematic sound of the 50s. This guitar absolutely sings.
We have been all over this guitar since it came in for consignment, and the ultimate conclusion is that it is possibly the most authentic recreation of ’57 Goldtop we’ve ever seen. And that includes some rather excellent guitars from Gibson Custom Shop, and a genuine original ’57 we sold a few years ago.
We do not say this lightly, but if you could actually see, feel, play & hear this guitar you may come to understand why we are so impressed.
Comes with its original Gibson Custom Certificate of Authenticity, plus another COA from Historic Makeovers signed by Kim LaFleur. It is housed in its Gibson Custom Lifton style hard shell case in excellent condition.
