Here is a fabulous and unusual guitar. There’s plenty of Strats out there, obviously from Fender, along with many of the makers who have created their own take on what is often regarded as the most popular solid body guitar design ever.
But this one was built by one of Australia’s leading luthiers – Gerard Gilet, who is most certainly more widely known for his hand crafted acoustic designs.
Gerard has been at the forefront of acoustic guitar design in Australia for over 30 years, making instruments by hand for a clientele of serious musicians and professionals. Every one of Gerard’s guitars are wonderful instruments, and this one is no exception.
Gerard says he has probably built six or seven Fender style guitars, and this is definitely the last one of them. It is Gerard’s version of the best of the best characteristics of the venerable Stratocaster, all rolled into one.
Two piece solid alder body
Old stock figured birdseye maple neck
Solid slab Brazilian rosewood fingerboard
16” fingerboard radius
Awabi shell fingerboard inlays
Gotoh Vintage tuners
Bone nut 1 5/8”
Wilkinson tremolo bridge & block with six adjustable saddles
Custom single coil pickups hand wound by Charles Cillia
Hand rubbed nitrocellulose finish
The fit and finish on this instrument is superb. The build quality is way up there with Fender Custom Shop Masterbuilt, which is the pinnacle of CS craftsmanship.
Except you won’t find a solid slab Brazilian rosewood fingerboard on any Fender these days. Nor the Awabi shell inlays – these are like AAA grade abalone and very rare.
Nor the custom wound pickups by Charles Cillia, who was originally a student and colleague of Gerard’s back in the day.
This is a new guitar, and was built less than a year ago. It is in perfect, totally unplayed condition. It has a stunning nitrocellulose finish in a unique colour we are calling Coral Pink.
It performs and plays like a top line CS Stratocaster, except it was made here in Sydney, by one of Australia’s most respected luthiers who has built a worldwide reputation for build quality and attention to detail.
This fabulous one-off Strat is testament to the high standards which have garnered Gilet instruments their wide-reaching acclaim.
This one comes as it is – without a case, because it’s never been anywhere except in Gerard’s workshop and PREMIER GUITARS’ showroom.
