Over the past 60+ years, the Fender Telecaster hasn’t wandered too far from its basic configuration, and in its various incarnations has come to be viewed as a reliable workhorse for a widely diverse variety of artists.
The first major change didn’t happen until 1968, when Fender’s Roger Rossmeisl decided to build a lighter alternative to the basic slab Tele. The result was the Thinline Telecaster.
New appointments on the Thinline included a 12-screw pearloid pickguard, a semi-hollow body, and a bass-side f-hole. Instead of using a cap on the body, Fender sliced the back from pieces of ash or mahogany, routed out chambers, and then put the pieces back together to form the finished semi hollow body. The rear-routed guitar weighed about seven pounds and had a maple neck and fretboard.
This a vintage Fender Telecaster built in the company’s Fullerton factory in late 1973. And it appears to be in completely original condition.
The guitar boasts a pair of original Fender Wide Range humbuckers, created by Fender’s pickup guru at the time Seth Lover. These pickups are fat and full sounding while still having a distinctive top end character, and the semi-hollow ash body provides both a midrange punch and a certain airy quality.
Original natural polyurethane finish.

This guitar is in excellent condition. Actually quite amazing considering it is over 45 years old. There is a ding with some bark off on the edge of the upper bout, a little wear on the edges in other areas, and some light rear buckle rash which can hardly be seen.
There is some very light fret wear on lowest 3 frets, but barely a mark on the MOTS (Mother Of Toilet Seat) pickguard. The tuners are strong and untarnished, as is the bridge.
The Seth Lover humbuckers are strong and punchy, and the guitar is set up well & plays beautifully. Recently set up by respected Sydney guitar tech Steve Cocking.
An interesting anomaly is the missing “R” in the Telecaster decal on the headstock. But it was that way when its current long term owner bought it in the 1980s from a good mate who happened to be quite a high profile frontman for a very big Aussie band at the time.
Comes original tags & owner’s manual in its original Fender black tolex case with logo in very good condition.
