Here is a lovely Fender Stratocaster, made in 1978 in Fullerton California. This one is finished in blonde, and features all hallmarks of late 70s Strats –
Bullet truss rod
Gloss finished maple fingerboard
Skunk stripe on neck rear
Three bolt neck joint with tilt adjustment
Three ply laminated pick guard
Block style bridge saddles
Closed back F tuners
This one is wearing a replacement tortoise shell 3 ply pickguard, white knobs and white pickup covers. The good news is that all of the original black plastic parts including back plate are in the case & included in the sale. But we agree with this one’s owner that it looks pretty slick the way it is now. And you can always put it back to original if black is your thing.
Apart from that, this one appears to be all original. We cannot discern any changes to –
Body & neck finish
All pickups (flat pole)
Tremolo bridge & saddles
Wiring & pots
Original 5 way switch
This one has certainly been played, but there’s usually a good reason for that – it’s a good player !
The original blonde finish is ageing nicely. There are the expected scuffs, dings and dents here & there. The neck is pretty clean, and the gloss maple fingerboard shows no wear at all. It has some buckle rash on the rear, but not through the lacquer.
The neck is 1 5/8” at the nut. Radius is 7 1/2” but string bending is clean and easy, partly due to the medium jumbo fret wire Fender was using at the time. A little wear on the lower frets but plenty of life left.
The pickups are bright with lots of typical Strat character. The bridge is rock solid, truss rod works fine.
The classic reverse-F tuners work perfectly and look fabulous.
Weight is 7.9 lbs so relatively light for a 70s Strat.
All in all, an excellent late 70s Strat with a classic blonde finish, that magnificent oversize headstock, rear skunk stripe, F tuners and excellent playability.
Comes in a non original hard shell case in good condition.
