There are three levels of build at the Fender Custom Shop –
- Custom Shop – high quality production models made available to the general public, albeit in more limited quantity than Fender's standard lines.
- Teambuilt - a more expensive alternative where short runs of a specific model are worked on by a team of the best Custom Shop builders. Some examples of these instruments include the Dick Dale Stratocaster, the David Gilmour Stratocaster, & Telecaster Thinlines.
- Masterbuilt – the ultimate Custom Shop experience where one particular Masterbuilder is assigned to oversee construction of a specific instrument, often as a special order. These instruments are designed to closely replicate the original examples and are very limited in number, generally more expensive, and very collectable.
Jason Smith has been one of the most esteemed Master Builders for the Fender Custom Shop since 1995. Now a Custom Shop veteran and son of longtime Fender R&D legend Dan Smith, Jason Smith grew up on Fender and worked for many years under acclaimed Senior Master Builder John English.
Jason personally selects only the finest woods and neck blanks for the Masterbuilt instruments he creates. He personally oversees every step of its construction from component selection, though finishing, construction and set up.

Each year before Fender’s annual Australian Roadshow, the team selects some very special products that represent perfect examples of a particular model to be released that year – the best of the best.
This guitar was exhibited as just that – an exceptional instrument with the perfect specs, build quality and attention to detail required to exemplify a flawless version of the model.
It was bought brand new by its one owner d new straight after the Aussie Roadshow and kept in perfect, as new (albeit factory relic’d) condition. It is a killer example of the one of the most popular reissues ever created by Fender Custom Shop – a versatile tone monster which is a true joy to play.
The Nocaster neck is big and full – and feels fantastic, with no lacquer on the back. The jumbo frets and 9.5” radius makes this one a string bender’s heaven.
At a flyaway 5.98 lbs this Tele is by far the lightest Fender solid body we’ve ever listed. And does it make a difference to the tone ??? Why YES.
This super lightweight Tele is alive – you can feel it against your body, and it is bright, chimey, loud and sustains for days – acoustically. And when you plug it in, well, it just amplifies all of those wonderful attributes. This one is something special.
If you’re going to buy a vintage Tele style guitar, this is as close as you’ll get to the real deal without having to mortgage the home to get it.
Comes in its Deluxe Fender hard shell case along with Fender Custom Shop Spec Sheet and Certificate of Authenticity signed by Jason Smith.
