We’ve had a few Strat Partscasters listed here at PREMIER GUITARS recently, and this is another good one (‘coz we wouldn’t list a bad one.)
Even though Fender offer a huge catalogue of diverse Stratocaster models, it seems there are many enthusiasts out there who just want to concoct their ultimate three pickup solid body with the right mix of parts and features.
So here’s the story of this one –
Body and neck - Fender Japan 1966 vintage reissue.
Bridge - Fender USA vintage spec
Fender USA full steel block tremolo
Gold vintage Kluson style tuners
Pickups - Jason Lollar Blackface
Electronics - USA CTS Pots with USA CRL switch
Copper shielded cavity
This lovely 66 style beast was crafted Jim Mac Guitars of Noosa QLD. Jim McKendry is a well regarded teacher and luthier who works with his clients to create their take on modern classics, such as this nice Strat finished in Candy Apple Red.
It has been nicely set up and plays comfortably in all positions. The neck features a slim C profile, 9.5” radius, a nice dark rosewood thick curved (2mm) fingerboard, and has been lightly sanded on the back so it is super smooth but not sticky.
Weight is 8.6 lbs
The Lollar pickups are sweet – everything you would expect from a high-end boutique pickup maker from Tacoma WA, USA.
From Lollar – “We merge old-school craftsmanship with cutting-edge technology and testing methods to manufacture premium pickups for electric guitar, bass, and steel guitar.
There is no assembly line here. Instead, each and every pickup is built from scratch by one of our highly-trained, dedicated artisans. Each builder completes an intensive one year apprenticeship and undergoes continuous training. It's all part of the Lollar Pickups mojo. You benefit from the collective expertise, passion, and experience of an outstanding team of craftsman who care deeply about what they create. We're also musicians and performers ourselves, so we know what you need whether you're on tour, in the studio, or a weekend warrior jamming in the basement with friends.
Everything we sell is created in our workshop in Tacoma, WA using the best, specially selected parts and materials. We are one of the few pickup manufacturers to make many parts in-house, each pickup is an expression of perfection — right down to the maker's mark that is the final touch on every Lollar pickup. Those initials are our guarantee of quality.”
All in all, this is a nice package – a professionally built Strat style guitar featuring that wonderful large headstock that first appeared in 1966, a great feeling maple neck with rosewood fingerboard, 6105 frets in great condition, and some great pickups that deliver clarity, touch sensitivity, exceptional dynamic range, and superior tone.
Comes in a 90s era Fender moulded case in good condition.
