In 1979 Fender celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Stratocaster, the original of which was introduced in 1954) with the first "anniversary" instrument.
This was the first Fender instrument to be issued in a pre-determined and numbered, limited quantity. The first 500 or so instruments produced were finished in Pearl White. However, due to the instability of the finish and the checking that resulted, many were recalled and re-finished in Porsche Silver.
After the first 500, this was the colour that was used for the rest of the production run, although Fender refers to it as "25th Anniversary Stratocaster Silver".
The 1979 Anniversary Stratocaster is significant for a number of reasons. It represents both a look behind and a look ahead for Fender. Noteworthy features include –
- Reversion to the four bolt neck plate
- Abandonment of the "bullet" truss rod adjustment in favour of the truss rod adjustment at the body end of the neck
Body: Exclusive Fender offset contoured waist design. “Anniversary” in black print on upper bout.
Neck: Detachable hard rock maple neck and curved maple fingerboard graduated for fast action and comfortable playing.
Adjustable truss rod nut at headstock.
21 medium nickel-silver frets.
6 Fender closed back machine heads.
Four-bolt neckplate with "1954 - 1979 25th Anniversary" logo
Bridge: 2-way adjustable design. 6 individually adjustable bridge sections. Pickups: Three adjustable and grounded, wide range, high output single coil pickups in a shielded cavity.
Five position pickup selector switch.
Synchronized tremolo with swing-away arm.
Master volume and two tone controls.
This 25th Anniversary Strat is in stunning, almost new condition. It has been in a collection and has never seen a rehearsal studio let alone a stage. Apart from some very faint light swirling on the pickguard and on the rear trem cover there are no marks, dings, dents, scratches anywhere that we can see. Certainly no buckle rash, and frets are 99%.
The guitar has been set up nicely and plays well in all positions. The neck is a very comfortable medium C profile. There appear to be no changes or modifications that we can see.
Weight is 9.4 lbs
It is true that many 25th Anniversary Strats have faded to a gold-green or developed significant wear patterns over time. This one is in original high gloss Anniversary Silver and is in mint condition.
From The Blue Book Of Guitars – “Values for this model are based on the finish and amount of fading/cracking that has occurred. The value between a faded silver model that looks gold to a truly unfaded silver model can range significantly.”
This one ticks all the boxes – a perfectly preserved time capsule with no fading or lacquer wear, that also happens to be a fine player with classic Fender Strat tone to burn.
Comes in its original moulded Fender hard case in excellent condition, along with its original case candy which has not been used.
