Boss RX-100 Reverb Box – Japan 1980s

by Boss

$595.00 21023

This high quality analog reverb was built by Roland/Boss in the early 80s. It is a great-sounding vintage spring reverb box with stereo functionality, onboard limiter, sturdy construction, and some nice lush tones.

Specs -

  • Input Impedance (Level): 4.7kOhm,-50dB (Ch. A-B) – 470kOhm,-20dB (Ch. A)
  • Output Impedance: Less than 600 Ohm
  • Delay Time 20mS – 400mS
  • Power Consumption: 3.5W
  • Dimensions: 13.4″ x 3.7″ x 11.5″
  • 5.7lbs.

Also badged as the Roland RV-100, this visually unprepossessing little black plastic box was something of a revelation in the 80s. It features switchable reverb times in either parallel (shorter) or series (longer).

This so-called “stereo reverb” is not actually stereo in the sense that there are two springs or two independent signal paths. The left and right sides of the stereo channel are just inversions/180 degree phase shifts of each other. This is controlled using the mode switch on the front panel.

One channel has input and output jacks on the front while the other channel has input and output jacks placed at the back of the enclosure.

This particular unit is in amazing original condition. It has been housed in a custom built wooden cabinet and used in a home studio setting. It has no marks, scratches, dings, dents or any other blemishes on the front & rear panels – a true time capsule.

Interesting little note about the signal path - if you send a signal into the channel B input but there is nothing plugged into the A input, the A output will be just the reverb from the B signal (100% wet signal). This is because there is actually only one reverb signal, which picks up from both inputs and sends to both outputs. But this super mooshy sound can be kind of fun to play with.

This RX-100 has been tested and it functions well. This is the 240V version with Aussie power plug.

This is a great little box delivers a smooth, pleasing reverb that belies its diminutive stature. A wonderfully affordable addition to any home studio.
