First introduced in April 2005, the Vox AC-30 CC2X combo amp was designed to recreate the most accurate “Beatle tone.” This all tube, 30 watt amp features a baltic birch enclosure with all the Vox cosmetic touches – basket weave vinhyde, brown Vox diamond grill cloth, gold piping, gold plated logo, gold grill moulding, white grill piping, three Vox handles, and eight black plastic two pin corners.
The only difference between the AC30 CC2 and AC30 CC2X is the speakers. The AC30 CC2X utilizes two 12″ Vox Alnico Blue speakers made by Celestion. These are the same speakers that George and John used in their AC-30 amps in 1964. If “Beatle tone” is what you’re after, it lives on in this top boosted AC30 CC2X.
This Vox features 2 blendable channels with a custom EQ switch on the Top Boost channel, and Brilliant switch on the normal channel. Lovely tremolo and spring reverb with dwell switch, footswitchability, and tone control. An effects loop with full bypass and level control gives you precision command over a broad range of sounds. Boutique features include switchable cathode bias for lower power and longer tube life, plus switchable smoothing filter values for looser or tighter feel. Also has vintage-style transformers, a tone cut control, and included dual footswitch.

Vox discontinued the AC-30 CC2X in 2010, but this is a mighty fine sounding amp. Yes it’s made in China, but all design elements and quality control is overseen by Vox UK to stringent standards. Purists may elect to disagree, but there is some excellent gear coming out of China these days. And it has to be better than just good to compete on the world stage. This is an example of a classic, time tested design being assembled with high quality components in a another country where simple scale of economics makes the whole project viable.
But it’s in the playing that the true test occurs. So it may be worth putting aside any possible prejudices & having a good listen with an open mind, and open ears. This is a very versatile combo amp, with tons of character true to the Vox legacy. It covers a lot of ground, with a punchy, chimy sound that can be tailored to your needs from clean to crunch, from churn to burn. Definitely worth a look-in.
It is in excellent condition with only one small tear in the tolex, which has been reglued and is hardly noticeable.
This amp comes in a pro quality roadcase on wheels, which is included in the sale. Pics of roadcase to come.
