Here is a fabulous 1961 Fender Stratocaster in excellent condition. This one is pre L Series, pre CBS, and features a beautiful dark Brazilian rosewood slab board fingerboard.
It has all the hallmarks of this period of desirable and collectable Strats. It is substantially unchanged, and has had the experienced eye of respected Sydney luthier Piers Crocker look over it in detail to document what is and what isn’t original. Here goes –

It has a beautiful one piece C shape maple neck with and clay dot markers in the slab Brazilian rosewood fingerboard. Neck is straight with perfect relief & intonation. The refret is an excellent job, and there’s plenty of life left in the frets.
The pickguard is now minty green but still flat and in proper shape. No cracks, splits, buckling or any other issues.
This particular 61 Strat was purchased in exactly this condition from a high profile Sydney dealer back in 1995, and it has been looked after with professional care. This discerning and meticulous owner works in the guitar service industry, and he knows what he’s doing. He has ensured that this instrument has not been molested or changed further during his many years of ownership.
This one is way up there with some truly great vintage Strats we have listed. Super comfortable to play, it is a beautiful sounding instrument – clear, bell-like tones, with that wonderful woody tone from the neck pickup, plenty of snarl from the bridge p/u, and lots of pop & cluck from the in-between p/u settings.
This is an exceptionally clean, substantially original pre L Series slab-board Strat – one of the nicest examples we’ve seen.
A real bonus is that it comes in its original Australian Stamford case which is a little frayed around the edges, but in good overall condition.
