Since its inception Fender Telecasters have been widely regarded as one of the most useful and versatile musician’s tools available. This ’68 model is a prime example and it will put a smile on your face. This one has an original Blonde finish that is darkening nicely towards Butterscotch. And it features the sought after maple cap fingerboard, so there’s no skunk stripe on the back of the neck.
Features a one-piece maple neck with standard 25.5″ scale length, 3-saddle bridge, and chrome hardware that is in amazing condition considering it is almost 50 years of age. Neck date is 3 June 1968 and the potentiometers date to 1966, which is common on late ’60s Fenders.
Structurally intact with no extra routing, splits or breaks. The current owner bought this one from a reputable dealer while visiting the US. And he bought to play, not just as a collectable vintage piece. And while it is every bit of that, it happens to play beautifully, with a spanking sound to match.
The saddles currently installed are slightly offset Joe Barden style solid brass units, which improve the intonation in a profound way. The three original steel bridge saddles are in the case & included in the sale.
The only other work done is a new bone nut installed some time ago.
Everything else on this classic 60s Tele is original, and validated by the US dealer prior to its purchase by the current owner.
This 68-er weighs in at a light 7.2 lbs
The neck is super clean, especially on the back, and the original frets have been nicely dressed, with plenty of life left. The F style tuners are solid and work perfectly.
Plugged in, the guitar has that unmistakable Tele tone, with tons of spank and bite, and the neck pickup has lots of character. The kicker is that this Tele has a particularly fabulous sounding bridge pickup. It is a real cracker with just the right amount of sharpness, a twinge of darkness, and a tonal edge that some Teles just don’t have.
Overall it is a great sounding Tele in excellent original condition – a true classic vintage instrument.
Comes in its original Fender black tolex case in good condition.
