This is probably the best player grade vintage Strat we’ve ever listed – an iconic guitar owned by one of Sydney’s busiest session players of the last 20+ years. It has been played on countless sessions and recordings by –
Kasey Chambers – first 4 albums
Rick Price …. and many more
In fact back in the day when John from PREMIER GUITARS was producing albums in the 80s & 90s, this guitar was the go-to electric instrument for this wonderful player who was booked on numerous occasions. He would arrive with this red Strat and a tweed Fender amp, take it out of the case (always in tune), plug it in direct, place any mic anywhere in the room, and BAM – 100% pure Fender tone in all its glory.
It was bought in this exact condition by the owner back in 1986, and has remained unchanged since then apart from a pro rewiring of a 5 way switch and new pots done around 1991, and some occasional setup work by respected Sydney luthier Piers Crocker.
The neck date is April 1958. It has an early 60s alder body which has evidence of once wearing a 3 ply pick guard. The pickups are original, and the middle pickup has been professionally rewound.
In its previous life it has had an excellent pro refret and a new nut installed. The newer pots date to 1990. The tuners have been replaced but the originals are in the case. The control knobs, bridge and saddles appear to be original. Much of the headstock sticker has been rubbed away over time, but it’s there.
It has been refinished long ago in what we are calling “Torana Red” which is close to Fender’s Torino Red, but closer to a 70s Holden Torana …. if some of us can remember those.
This Red Rocket is a serious tone machine. Weight is 7.6 lbs. It is acoustically loud and chimey, with a neck that should be classified as a natural wonder. It plays itself.
Plug it in to any decent amp and it delivers in every way, with 3 great pickups that are wonderfully focused, delivering that classic Fender tone in every setting.
PREMIER GUITARS is proud to be listing this fabulous vintage Strat with quite a history. Hopefully it will turn up on the radar of a discerning player who knows the value of finding an instrument that will deliver profound vintage tone every time, and will put it to good use for another 60 years.
Comes in a later black Fender Custom Shop hard case in as-new condition.
