From PRS Product Specialist Bryan Ewald –
“There are a lot of folks out there myself included who absolutely love the sound of a good P90 soapbar – they have all the character of a single coil with a bit more heft. The PRS/Seymour Duncan soapbars in these models have nice bite and grind single notes are sweet and clean but still have plenty of heft to them and they are very responsive to where you pick on the string.”
These are sweet pickups – chords sound full and round while single notes sing sweetly. While being a relatively low output pickup these soapbars have a many usable voicings by simply adjusting your volume and tone controls.
The PRS McCarty model pays homage to a legacy of innovation. As the President of Gibson during a true golden era of guitar building (1950-1966) Ted McCarty was a pioneer of the electric guitar and musical instrument industry. In the late 1980’s Paul Reed Smith called on Ted to consult with him on guitar design and production techniques. He not only served as Paul’s mentor but became a great friend of Paul and everyone he met at PRS.
In 1994 PRS released the first McCarty, an instrument that incorporated the full spectrum of techniques and knowledge Paul had gained from Ted as well as his own experiences as a guitar builder. The PRS McCarty model features a slightly thicker back for enhanced tone and sustain.

PRS are renowned for their quality control and attention to detail and they don’t come much better than this with a fabulous deep stripe in the Ten Top and finished in stunning Scarlet Red.
For newcomers to the PRS story here’s how the company defines a Ten Top – “A very small percent of the maple trees cut in North America are actually figured. To make “10-Top” status a PRS top must have clearly defined figure across its entire top with no “dead” spots. A guitar designated as a 10-Top will usually have a small “10” written on the back of the headstock in the upper right corner. Some of our earlier guitars have the “10” stamped into the finish in the same position.”
This is an impressive instrument in fabulous condition. It has been meticulously looked after and presents with little visible player wear. Light & comfortable lots of variety available with these pickups – sweet chimey chords and plenty of punch in these soapbar pickups to cut through the band when needed.
This guitar was listed for $5995 when new in 2006 and apart from some light buckle rash on the back it is in the same condition today.
Comes in its original PRS hard shell case with all tags & paperwork.
