The SE-600 Sparkle Sounds was a higher end model from Greco’s 1978 range of Strat style guitars. It has a three-piece Sen (Japanese Ash) body with a maple neck and is loaded with three single Maxon EXCEL pickups.
The cost-cutting measures that CBS had implemented on Fender USA had a huge impact on the quality and consistency of their instruments in the Seventies. But Japanese guitar makers were producing high quality instruments throughout the decade, and they have stood the test of time. If you’re after a vintage Fender-style guitar from the 1970’s you’ll be well advised to check out a quality Japanese guitar like this one.
Greco guitars were built at the Fujigen Gakki factory from 1975 to 1981. In 1976 the Greco Super Sounds series arrived and featured the highly regarded Maxon EXCEL pickups on the SE models.
This SE 600 is in excellent condition for a 40 year old guitar. It shows normal player wear with some small dings, dents & scratches, but overall this one is in good shape. Frets have plenty of life, neck is straight and the Greco tuners are solid.
Weight is 7.9 lbs which is quite a but less than some 70s Fender equivalents. Comfortable to play.
It has a very nice vintage tone – warm & clean, kinda like a nice old Strat !
And you gotta love the headstock sticker which reads “BRAZEN PICKER PROFESSIONAL”
Comes with a Washburn gig bag in good condition.
