Now in its eightieth year of continuous production, the Gibson ES (or Electric Spanish series) carries a staying power rarely seen in the guitar market. Its wide array of classic models deliver a coveted warm, full-bodied tone that’s become the signature sound of countless jazz, blues and rock musicians. The ES series has continued to evolve over the decades with new models entering the lineup and older ones reaching the end of their run.
Though radical in its design compared to its fully-hollow ES series cousins, the thin, double-cutaway ES-335 has enjoyed the longest continuous production run of any ES model. With two humbucker pickups and a solid maple center block, the semi-hollow ES-335 and its siblings have delivered some of the most famous blues and rock riffs in guitar history, from “Johnny B. Goode” by Chuck Berry to “The Thrill is Gone” by B.B. King and “Room 335” by Larry Carlton.
This gorgeous 2016 Gibson ES-335F sports a beautiful Cherry Red finish – the colour probably most associated with this classic instrument. And the “F” in the model number stands for Figured, as in figured top. So it has some lovely stripey grain showing through the gloss finish, especially on the back.

The Gibson Custom ES-335 is one of the most versatile guitars ever created. It is a truly classic design which is suitable for literally all style. The semi-hollowbody and dual ’57 Gibson humbucker pickups combine to produce everything from stinging blues to thick rock growls and sweet singing sustain.
This ES 335 was built in Gibson’s Memphis facility on Beale Street. The result is quality craftsmanship that can be counted on, from craftsmen in a city that knows how blues should sound. Carefully selected maple top & back gives the Gibson Memphis 335 its signature bark, and a carefully designed body cavity with the solid centre block delivers the woody howl and unique tones.
This 335 has experienced a crack in the neck below the rear of the headstock, which has been expertly repaired by a professional luthier, and can hardly been seen at all. But it is there. We have tried to photograph it but it simply does not show up.
Unfortunately this is not uncommon on Gibson 335s and some SGs. But as many would attest, a neck professionally repaired and glued is possibly stronger than in its original incarnation. However, it does affect the instrument’s value & this one has been priced accordingly.
Apart from the neck repair, this one is in pristine condition with no dings, marks or scuffs apart from a little swirling on the pickguard. The frets show no signs of wear and everything works as it should. This 335 feels like it’s been played-in just enough, but looked after wonderfully well.
Comes in its original Gibson Custom hard shell case in new condition.
