From Gibson – “Gibson Custom Shop is the pinnacle of craftsmanship, quality, and sound excellence. Each instrument celebrates Gibson’s legacy through accuracy, authenticity and attention to detail.
The 1958 Les Paul Reissue features all the painstaking historic construction methods of the famous ’59 Reissues with a few historically-accurate spec differences that allow it stand on its own. Like the 1958 originals, it has narrow frets which help more of the fingerboard wood to be heard in the tone profile. It also has a round, chunky neck profile for a full feel and maximum bending leverage. And finally it has a beautiful maple top; each is unique and full of character. “

This is a Gibson Les Paul LPR-8 1958 Historic Reissue with a spectacular flamed maple top. It was built back in 2002 at the Gibson Custom facility. And it is a fabulous guitar in every way. We believe it was a NAMM show piece for Gibson back in its year of birth. The top displays a fabulous bookmatched, deeply striped flame maple in the special order colour of Faded Tobacco. The original sticker referencing this is still on the pickguard.
It has not been given any ageing treatment, which means it is a NOS spec – new old stock. And even though this guitar is 17 years old, it presents as a new guitar. There is not a mark anywhere to be seen. No scuffs, scratches, dents or blemishes of any kind. Not even any marks on the pickguard. It has been a trophy piece, on display in a home environment. Which is a pity because this guitar deserves to be seen and heard.
Regarded as the last period of the Gibson good wood era, the 2001 – 2002 LPR8s are now highly sought after. This non weight relieved 2002 model has what only can be described as a stunning flame maple top – it really is a beautiful looking guitar, with a fabulous 50’s neck and unique character.
The pickups on this one are rich in tone, harmonically complex and well balanced. It is an exceptional guitar to play. It is in excellent condition – 100% original with no changes and no issues. With the use of 60-year-old manufacturing techniques, Gibson has succeeded in the alchemy of creating a new guitar with the feel of an aged instrument without resorting to the relic process.
Weight is 9.3 lbs.
Comes in its Lifton style Gibson brown hard shell case in new condition, with Gibson Custom Certificate of Authenticity.
