Unlike the standard Gibson Jumbo, the Gibson CJ-165 has a smaller body and a comfortable 24 3/4″ scale, and as such is suited to the player who prefers a smaller bodied acoustic. The Gibson CJ-165 is designed to rest easily on the knee and is comfortable & compact when standing. Don’t be fooled by its smaller size though – this in no way compromises the quality of its tone.
Build features on this lovely smaller jumbo include a solid premium Sitka spruce top that provides full-bodied resonance. This is further enhanced by the attractive AAA maple back and sides with 1930’s style body bracing. The top has 4-ply binding, a bound rosewood fret board with mother-of-pearl split parallelogram inlays, an abalone rosette, and mother-of-pearl headstock inlays, all of which make for a very attractive instrument.
The now discontinued CJ-165 was a fixture in Gibson’s distinguished line of L-Series smaller body acoustics. For players wanting a comfortable, compact acoustic with the tonal characteristics of a Jumbo, the CJ-165 fits the bill.
