There’s something irresistible about a 40+ year old, maple-neck Strat with that wonderful big headstock – case in point, this excellent condition ’74 Stratocaster in lovely bright sunburst.
Weighing in at a comfortable 7.4 lbs, this Strat has fantastic sustain and a loud, chimey voice with plenty of that signature Fender snap when played acoustically – you can really feel the entire guitar resonate against your chest when strumming chords.
And it’s a one owner guitar, bought new from a Sydney shop in 1974. It’s been the main guitar of its longtime owner, but it has been beautifully looked after. We believe nothing has been changed on this with the exception of a five way switch installed around the time they became standard on Strats in 1977.
The neck carve is slender but comfortable which is what you’d expect from a Fender from this era. It has a few minor scuffs & dents in its original finish, and some buckle rash on the rear – see pics. But the 3 colour sunburst finish is in excellent condition, and still with a vibrant glow. The frets have lots of life left, and there is no tarnishing of the metal parts.
All the glassy, clucky chime that Strats are known for is here in spades. The neck pickup is airy & spacious, the bridge pickup has lots of bite and the in-between positions sound fantastic. All electronics work as they should with no issues.
This is a very cool, very original Strat with tons of vintage vibe. Sure to please a player looking to get into a vintage Fender without the breaking the bank.
Comes in its original Fender hard shell case in good condition.
