Here is a cool Fender Stratocaster USA made in 1978 and finished in classy all black. It features a solid ash body and a 3 bolt maple neck with maple fingerboard. And it’s a lefty.
This one is in pretty good condition for a 40 year old guitar. It has done a few miles and seen a few gigs and consequently shows some minor player wear here and there, but nothing significant.
It has a newer replacement bridge and saddles – a high quality Gotoh unit, with a big solid trem block.
At some point the tuners have been replaced with some nice Schaller heads. But ….. they have obviously come from a Gibson style instrument, with a 3-per-side headstock. So on this Strat, we find that 3 of the tuners tune up correctly (anti-clockwise), but the other three need to be turned the opposite way. Which is a little confusing at first, but you can get used to it. Probably best though to replace these with a correct 6-per-side set.
All the electronics – pickups, pots, wiring, switch etc, appear to be unmolested. The plastics are all original. But there are no structural issues and this thing feels good to play. And probably a lot easier if you are left handed !
The frets are in good shape, all electronics work 100%, the neck is clean & comfortable and the pickups are bright and snappy sounding. It has a 5-way blade switch and weighs a comfortable 8.1 lbs.
All in all a funky, black 70s Strat with that magnificent oversize headstock, rear skunk stripe and a 3 bolt neck joint that does NOT move or slide around. Quite a looker with sound to match.
Comes in original 70s Fender tolex case in good condition.
