“FSR” stands for Fender Special Run. These products are specially commissioned by individual dealers and built to their specifications. As they aren’t regular production models, FSR instruments and amps aren’t generally available to every dealer, and Fender seldom provide specs or listings for them on its website.
Which means that each Fender Special Run is a bit unique in terms of spec, finish and colour.
This particular FSR Strat features a lovely “Hand Rubbed Honey Burst” finish. It was bought new by its one owner from a Fender dealer in Sydney in 2012. But it looks and feels like it’s new.
Some FSR guitars are built offshore, but this one is USA made, as stated on the sticker under its serial number. It is essentially an American Standard Stratocaster, with some variants in its features – but in this case really only its quite beautiful translucent satin finish, and some sweet sounding Fender USA Noiseless pickups.
From Fender –
“Body and Neck: The contoured double cutaway body is made of alder in gloss polyester finish protected by a 3-ply scratch plate. Alder is a straight grain mid-weight wood that take finishes well, and a commonly used wood on Fender guitars together with ash. Tonally it produces a clear full-bodied sound, excellent mids and lows with a good amount of sustain.
Fender FSR Stratocaster has a bolt-on modern C-shape maple neck, top by a 21 fret medium jumbo rosewood fingerboard complete with inlay dots. Rosewood gives the guitar a warm and roomy quality to the sound.
Pick-ups and Hardware: The clean bright and bluesy overdriven sound are produced by noiseless single-coil pick-ups placed on the neck, middle and bridge controlled by a master volume, two tone control knobs and 5-way switch blade for pick-up selection.
Chrome finish vintage-style tuners and vintage-style synchronised tremolo bridge carries the stings while keeping it in the right pitch that comes with whammy bar for vibrato effect.”
This FSR Strat is in excellent condition. There is some light pick wear on the guard and some minor marks here and there, but almost impossible to see without serious scrutiny. Apart from that, this guitar presents as virtually new.
It has been set up well and plays comfortably in all positions. And of course it sounds unmistakably like the modern classic it is.
Comes in its Fender tweed case in excellent condition.
