PRS introduced the USA made Mira range in 2997. Latin for “wonderful,” Mira is also the name of an unusually fast moving star located approximately 350 light years from earth. Not to be confused with the cheaper Mira S2, this PRS is an original run USA made Mira with crescent moon inlays.
The PRS Mira model is a 24-fret guitar that features a 25” scale length, 10” fingerboard radius, regular or wide-thin neck shape, locking tuning pegs, PRS non-adjustable stoptail, Abalone moon inlays or optional bird inlays. The guitar also features East Indian rosewood fingerboard, a solid mahogany body and neck, Mira treble and bass pickups, volume, tone, 3-way blade switch and mini toggle coil tap.
From PRS – “The Mira is a good example of a great concerted effort between peers in marketing, R&D and production who have been working together for a long time. Our goal was to make a guitar that feels, looks and sounds different but keeps the quality, playability and unique PRS attributes. We wanted the Mira to have the feel of a flat top electric yet have the unique beauty of a carved guitar.”
This all-mahogany design has its closest relatives in PRS’s original all-mahogany Standard and the flat-top all-mahogany SE Standard. In fact, the Mira sits between the two – instead of the well-known complex carved top of the USA Standard, here the flat-top body is carved away from the base to the upper tip of the bass-side horn.
The neck is totally familiar to PRS fans. In fact it’s the exact same neck (wide-thin on this one), with the same moon inlays, fretwire and rolled fingerboard edge as you’d find on a 24-fret Custom or Standard. In the Mira, PRS have created a very SG-like feel as well as a guitar that is easier, and therefore less expensive, to produce.
There’s quite an old-style organic musicality to the sounds that makes the Mira surprisingly versatile. PRS may have been aiming the Mira at a more modern band in terms of image and sound, but many of us who were brought up on old Les Paul Specials and SGs are going to appreciate the classic mahogany grind that the Mira effortlessly produces.
This PRS Mira is in excellent condition. There are a couple of tiny marks evident in its Powder Blue finish, but you’ve gotta look hard to find them. PRS guitars are so well made, they are hard to fault when they come out of the factory, and this one is no exception – even after ten years on the planet. It is in totally original condition, with tons of fret life left and everything working as it should.
Not only does the Mira have a more affordable price tag, it simply delivers that classic mahogany/humbucker sound that’s just as much a part of guitar history as it is the sound of the modern crop of guitar-pop bands.
Comes in its original PRS case in excellent condition.
