Vintage Gibson B-25N 'Betty' - USA 1968
Pickup currently unavailable
The Gibson B-25N is a classic acoustic guitar model that was introduced by Gibson in the mid-1960s. It was part of the B-series, which were small-bodied, affordable acoustic guitars designed for folk and popular music styles. The "N" in the model name typically stands for "natural finish."
The B-25N was introduced by Gibson in the mid-1960s as a more affordable alternative to their larger J-45 and J-50 models. It was designed to appeal to folk musicians and singer-songwriters who wanted a smaller, more manageable guitar with a balanced tone.
The B-25N features a smaller "00" size body, which is sometimes referred to as a "concert" or "parlour" size. This body size is known for its comfortable playability and well-balanced tonal characteristics.
The B-25N has a spruce top and mahogany back and sides. These tonewoods are known for producing a warm and balanced sound, with a focus on midrange frequencies. Perfect for the singer/songwriter.
The B-25N has simple appointments, reflecting its intended purpose as a more affordable model. It has minimal binding, dot inlays on the fretboard, and a simple rosette design around the soundhole.
The smaller body size of the B-25N contributes to its unique sound. While it doesn't have the booming bass of larger dreadnought models, it offers a clear and balanced tonal response that is well-suited for fingerstyle playing and folk music.
Bought by the current owner in 1996 in Amsterdam, this Gibson B-25N is an absolute beauty - affectionately known as 'Betty', after the engraving on the truss rod cover. The guitar has aged beautifully with gorgeous checking on the spruce top and the mahogany back and sides, no sign of cracks or repairs, the neck has some marks and small imperfections but in no way affects playability. The neck is straight, truss rod works well and the tuners hold tune perfectly. At some point it has had a refret, performed by industry respected luthier, Gerard Gilet, so plenty of life left in the frets.
This is a well rounded, vintage Gibson with plenty of character and certainly a story or two to tell. Check 'Betty' out sooner rather than later, as we can't see this one lasting long!
