Conceived amid the chrome and tailfins of Motor City USA, forged on the workbenches of Kalamazoo, proven on rock and blues stages around the globe, the Gibson Firebird was one of the most radical instruments the world had ever experienced when it hit the scene in 1963, and is still a guaranteed head-turner today.

Last Chance For Roy

This week at PREMIER GUITARS in Sydney we wish to bring to your attention one of the most collectible guitars we have ever listed – a truly beautiful Martin OM-45 Roy Rogers Limited Edition from 2006.

The owner of this remarkable piece has just advised a rather large $1000 price reduction, bringing the price down to $12,995.

But it’s for a limited time only. If we cannot find Roy a new home fairly quickly, the owner will take it off the market and it will disappear from sale. It will not be reduced further and it will not turn up for sale anywhere else.

Rest of the story is here – http://www.premierguitars.com.au/product/martin-roy-rogers-limited-edition-om-45-usa-2006/

A Tale Of Two Hofners

As we’ve mentioned before, with a consignment sales business like PREMIER GUITARS here in Sydney, you never know what’s going to come through the door. After not previously listing a Hofner guitar in our nearly 3 years since opening, by a quirk of co-incidence we are now listing two lovely Beatles era Hofner hollow bodies. The first time many of us became aware of the German guitar brand was on the bass of a certain famous Beatle. And we know that both Buddy Holly and George Harrison owned Hofners, along with many other trailblazers from the era. It’s the sound of the 60s.

Rest of the story is here – http://www.premierguitars.com.au/product/hofner-verithin-germany-1962//

Rare Bird

Guitar Of The Week at PREMIER GUITARS in Sydney is this fabulous non-reverse Gibson Firebird I from 1967. For those who find the standard “reverse” Firebird model a bit of an unwieldy beast, here is the super comfortable alternative – a lightweight Bird with two killer P 90 pickups, which bark & snarl, sing and soar. A beautifully balanced Bird that feels kinda Straty, but sounds unmistakably Gibson.

What Then Is NFY ?

If EOFY means End Of Financial Year, then what does NFY mean ? According to AcronymFinder it can mean Not Fixed Yet, Not For You, Never Forget You or even Nylon Filament Yarn….. hmmm. But if you’re in the World Of Big Business (WOBB) like PREMIER GUITARS, then obviously it means New Financial Year.

So to kick off the NFY, here’s Part 2 of our SALE listed items. They are all PRICE REDUCED, discounted, slashed, bargained, cut priced, cheaper, steal-a-deal …. whatever. But all of these have been reduced for sale, so act quickly & save yourself some $$$ on some mighty fine gear. Including this beautiful Aussie made Maton MS 2000 DLX in new condition. One of the marvelous things about running a consignment sales business like PREMIER GUITARS is not knowing what’s going to come through the door next.

Now, here’s one of the most amazing and unexpected instruments we’ve ever seen – a Novax Charlie Hunter 8 String model. Whoooda thought ??

This unique beast is a combined bass AND guitar, which one human being (obviously very talented) can play at once. Rest of the story is here – http://www.premierguitars.com.au/product/novax-charlie-hunter-8-string-usa-2009/

REPRICING RAMPAGE

Here at PREMIER GUITARS in Sydney we have a pricing policy that endeavours to reflect average world prices for particular instruments. We undertake substantial research to provide consignment clients with accurate pricing guidance for their instruments. And in the end, it is the owner’s prerogative to price their special babies where they wish.

However, the most accurate feedback on pricing actually comes from the market itself.

So with this in mind, several owners of consigned instruments have decided to reprice their listings, which we pleased to pass on to you – the (hopefully) interested buyer. Here’s a list of great guitars (and one great amp) at reduced prices, including some that we would describe as bargains –

Gerard has been at the forefront of acoustic guitar design in Australia for over 30 years, making instruments by hand for a clientele of serious musicians both at home and overseas. Gilet guitars have become sought after especially since Gerard has slowed down his output significantly in recent years.

2017 !!x#$!! How did that get here so quickly ?

Hoping everyone had a great Xmas & New Year period. We spent it moving ….

Yes, PREMIER GUITARS has opened a new showroom and storage facility in Brookvale in northern Sydney – not quite as far north as our original premises in Warriewood.

We had outgrown our early digs, and now have almost 100 listings online and on display in our new showroom, which you are welcome to visit by appointment. Just email us at: sales@premierguitars.com.au or phone 0414 994 506.

Today we are also featuring a fabulous Gibson Les Paul Custom, created by Gibson’s Custom Shop division in 2014. It is simply a beautiful instrument in as-new condition. We originally listed this one at $4995 (well below new RRP), then reduced it to $4495. The Return Of A Grand Old Lady

A while ago we listed a truly beautiful vintage classic – a 1949 Gibson ES-5. It was at PREMIER GUITARS for some months, but the owner had some other intentions for it, so she disappeared form our website for a while. But now she’s back, in all her pre rock & roll glory, and with a substantial price drop.

This grand old lady is a significant part of Gibson history. It is a very rare guitar, especially in Australia. She is in excellent condition, with all original parts as far as we can see. She has some standard player wear, but considering her 67 years on the planet, she’s doing extremely well.

We have just loaded some more great online video clips of some new listings at here PREMIER GUITARS in northern Sydney. Our friend Ryan Smith recorded these 100% live last week in our showroom with the aid of a Strymon Timeline looper, plugged into a 70s Silverface Fender Princeton amp. Some of the clips feature an Xotoc RC Booster at the end. The aim is to simply showcase the guitar, and Ryan did this admirably, creating his own backing tracks on the fly & playing beautifully over these. Most were done in one take, & shot by local videographer Noah van der Veer.

PREMIER GUITARS in Sydney reached a milestone this week. We turn two years old today !

Hard to believe but it was two years ago today that we moved into “The Vault” at Warriewood in northern Sydney, and launched the website with 26 guitars, sourced primarily from encouraging mentors, collectors & friends.

Wow, what a ride. In two years we have sold over 150 great guitars, ranging from a $250 Yamaha classical to a number of circa $30K vintage instruments. We believe in this time PREMIER GUITARS has become established as Australia’s leading premium & vintage guitar dealer.

So many thanks to all our fab customers in that time, and to our many valued clients who have listed over 250 instruments with PREMIER GUITARS to date. We have had a great time connecting sellers of quality guitars, amps & basses with buyers from all over Australia and overseas.

Being a consignment based business we are constantly amazed at the quality instruments regularly arriving here at PREMIER GUITARS to be listed for sale. Having regularly sold the vast majority of our listings since our inception, we are always seeking new consignment stock. So if you something that is not getting the attention it needs please get in touch & we’ll help you find it a new home. A Tele on steroids has a collision with a Firebird.”

Gene Baker b3 Phoenix – USA 2014

Luthier Gene Baker describes the b3 Phoenix as “a Tele on steroids has a collision with a Firebird.”

Here is one of the best sounding and most versatile instruments we have ever listed at PREMIER GUITARS. It is comfortable, balanced, super playable, with a palette of tones available from a unique combination of great pickups. No pedal board required here – you can dial up anything from clean Strat-like tones, to spanky & gritty Tele twang, to fat Gibson-esque sounds without a glance at any foot triggers.

But this guitar comes with the genuine witnessed signatures of over 20 of the world’s greatest guitarists, including some who are no longer with us, and some who NEVER give their signatures.

How did this come to be ? Rest of the story is here –

Gorgeous In Gold

Guitar Of The Week from PREMIER GUITARS in Sydney is a fabulous vintage Gibson ES 295 from 1953.

Scotty Moore anyone ? The legendary guitarist used his ES 295 on some of the earliest classic Elvis recordings, on the road and on television. Widely regarded as the man who invented rockabilly, and influenced many future guitar gods, Scotty Moore’s favourite guitar in his most potent period was “the prettiest thing I’d ever seen” – the Gibson ES 295.

Well it’s one for the money …..

REPRICING RAMPAGE

Here at PREMIER GUITARS in Sydney we have a pricing policy that endeavours to reflect average world prices for particular instruments. We undertake copious research to provide clients with accurate pricing guidance for their consigned instruments. And in the end, it is the owner’s prerogative to price their special babies where they wish.

However, the most accurate feedback on pricing actually comes from the market itself. And in some cases, the market has spoken in a clear way, by NOT engaging with certain instruments at particular price points.

So with this in mind, several owners of consigned instruments have decided to reprice their listings, which we pleased to pass on to you – the (hopefully) interested buyer. Here’s a list of great guitars at reduced prices, including some that we would describe as bargains –

More Videos of Great Guitars

We have some more new great online video clips of many of our listings at PREMIER GUITARS. This new set of videos was recorded last week ago with the very talented Matthew Robinson playing and speaking about some nice instruments.

They were recorded 100% live in our Sydney showroom with no edits & no backing tracks, plugged (quietly) into a 70s Silverface Fender Princeton amp with no effects. The aim is to simply showcase the guitar, and Matt did this admirably. Shot by local videographer Noah van der Veer.

Epiphone Rivoli Bass 1964

Brit Invasion Beauty

The owner of this fabulous Epiphone Rivoli Model 3 EBV232 wants to move it, so here is a classic electric bass made in Kalamazoo Michigan in 1964 at a reduced price.

The Epiphone Rivoli Bass is one of the iconic instruments of the 1960’s British invasion, played by many of the most successful bands of the era. This authentic example is actually extremely rare, especially in Australia. This one’s serial # is 17xx55 = 1964.

Its twin brother (#17xx50) is currently for sale in USA for US$3250, and that’s before shipping, insurance & import duties. This one is right here in Oz & awaits your inspection in our northern Sydney showroom.

But we have not been quiet on the listing front. In the week since I have been back we have signed consignment agreements for a lovely list of desirables, all coming to our website as soon as I can get them listed. The list includes –

Does your self managed super fund own your guitar/s ?

Here’s a quote from today’s Sydney Morning Herald – “Do you have an artwork (or guitar) that is owned by your DIY super fund that is hanging on your wall or at your business premises? If so, you had better get it down quickly, or risk a penalty from the Tax Office.”

IMPORTANT TO KNOW – if your super fund owns your instruments – for assets acquired by an Australian super fund before OR after 1st July 2011, you must ensure that the assets cease to be stored at the private residence or business premises of a related party before 1 July 2016. If by 1 July 2016 the assets do not comply with the regulations, penalties may be imposed.
Here’s a link to the SMH article – just substitute “artwork” for “instrument”, the law applies to both art and collectibles, including guitars – http://www.smh.com.au/money/super-and-funds/smsfowned-artwork-needs-to-be-off-the-wall-and-into-storage-20160506-goo955.html

PREMIER GUITARS in Sydney is currently storing instruments for many clients for a number of reasons, and we are consistently told our rates and facilities are the best in Oz, so call John on 0414 994 506 to discuss your requirements.

The Vault – our premises in a modern office building in Sydney’s northern beaches are some of the most secure possible. We occupy what was a purpose built strongroom for a major jewellery company.

Well, it only took us a year or more, but we finally have some great online video clips of many of our listings at PREMIER GUITARS. This is the nature of cottage industry – we do everything, by hand, meticulously, by ourselves. A couple of weeks ago our friend Damien Robison came in to record a few video demos. They were recorded 100% live in our showroom with no edits & no backing tracks, plugged (quietly) into a 70s Silverface Fender Princeton amp with no effects. The aim is to simply showcase the guitar, and Damien did this admirably. Shot by local videographer Noah van der Veer.

Junior’s Story

Gibson Les Paul Junior – USA 1957 – $6750

Starting in 1954, Gibson offered players a simple, affordable take on the Les Paul dubbed the Les Paul Junior. This bare-bones solid body featured one dog-eared P-90 pickup, a stud-mounted stop tailpiece / bridge, an unbound rosewood fingerboard, and slab mahogany body. For all its simplicity, the LP Jr remains one of the most versatile guitars ever built.

Heritage Johnny Smith “The Rose” – USA 1995

Here is a lively, lightweight 17” archtop with a hand carved “tapped top”. What’s that ?
This is when a luthier hand-taps specific zones while carving the solid top and back, to ensure matching resonance is achieved in precise areas.

This is a custom extra which cost an additional US$1000. As a result, this guitar is extraordinarily lively and super lightweight at only 5.8 lbs, reflecting the extra special attention afforded it by its creators, The Heritage Guitar Co of Kalamazoo, Michigan.

The Holy Grail ?

Could this be the Holy Grail ? PREMIER GUITARS’ Guitar Of The Week is an original 1954 Prototype Fender Stratocaster. The serial number and internal markings indicate that this one was made primarily by the legendary Tadeo Gomez under the personal supervision of Leo Fender in July 1954, before they went into official production and into USA retail stores in October ’54.

It is a brilliant example of a unique pre-production Strat, and possibly the oldest in Australia.

This week PREMIER GUITARS shines the spotlight on not one, but two Guitars of The Week. It’s not often that we see a fabulous 1959 Gibson ES345 in the flesh. But how about two? Yes, we are currently listing a pair of these beauties – almost identical twins. And one has its original PAF pickups, rarer than the Tasmanian Tiger. The other is just as pretty, with revered Tom Holmes pickups and rewired by Frank Grubisa.

This week’s Guitar Of The Week at PREMIER GUITARS is a big, bold, blonde Barker 18” archtop handmade in Manhattan in 1969. Bill Barker only made about 100 – 120 guitars in his lifetime, and this is one of few surviving in great condition. Bob Benedetto, one of the big name luthiers of today, says Bill was counted along with him, James D’Aquisto and one or two others as the premier builders of the period.

There is considerable history to this guitar, and the owner has REDUCED THE PRICE down to $5995. The rest of the story is worth reading, here – http://www.premierguitars.com.au/product/barker-18-archtop-handmade-usa-1969/

PREMIER GUITARS is about to list some significant vintage pieces over the next few weeks, but ahead of that we are featuring a very affordable Guitar Of The Week available now at a REDUCED PRICE.

This Yamaha AEX 1500 Martin Taylor Signature Archtop, made in Japan in 1998, is a fine example of Yamaha’s vintage-meets-visionary philosophy.

The AEX1500 features a neck-mounted floating mini-humbucker for those warm and mellow traditional archtop tones, plus a bridge-loaded piezo system for realistic amplified acoustic sounds. These two signal sources can be mixed together, allowing for great versatility.

It has been reduced $500 in price this week, from $1,995 down to $1495, so check it out here – http://www.premierguitars.com.au/product/yamaha-aex-1500-martin-taylor-signature-archtop-japan-1998/
